Sad truth, nothing is going to happen with this team. For some reason, the brass have decided the team can compete as is. I am by no means a hockey GM, but I must disagree. First time in 20+ years I have no excitement for the season. If its played or isnt I feel the Blackhawks have about the same chance of winning. Thanks for the update JJ. |

With a possible lockout coming for part or all of the season, is it time to start thinking that the front office is running with the idea of having a "lost season" in order to make a strong push for the Cup in 2014? |

How many other teams have asked about E. Kane? I'm sure the hawks are not the only team. |

I'm sure at least 28 of the other teams besides Chicago and Winnipeg are interested in Kane. But we are one of the few teams with enough young talent and prospects to actually make a solid deal. |

First time in >20 years there's isn't any excitement? The 2 years after the lockout and the 8 years before it sucked big time; far worse than this team.
Those teams and the words "Stanley Cup" in the same sentence had zero congruence. |

The let's load up and go big after a Cup in a particular year is like nails on a chalk board for me.
The best franchises in every sport put themselves in a position to win as often as possible and then hope to get some pleasant surprises and not a lot of injuries.
In 2010 the thinking of some was the Hawks loaded up and won the Cup....
In reality they loaded up the payroll because so many young players that were resigned, with almost no other choice but to do so, had gotten good all at once.
Everything else fell into place because the talent was here already.
The only point about missing a season which may benefit the Hawks is if you put their destiny in the hands of those who have played only a handful of NHL games or none at all so far.
But is one year of AHL experience enough to to fill holes and for the current group to be a true Cup contender???
Maybe.... maybe not.
Either way there will be 29 other clubs who could be looking toward the following season as well.

I guess I was young and always hoped that something magical would happen even then. I remember suffering through the horrible post-lockout season thinking, "ok, it will get better." But I dont feel anything has improved from last year. I dont feel that it is ok to stand pat and make the playoffs, and that be ok. Windows for championships close quickly, and every year that the team just makes the playoffs, that window gets a little narrower. I agree all of the pre-Toews years sucked as well, but the top talent that this team has was not there. I didnt really expect Arnason, Bell, and Calder to lead the team to a championship, so if they made the playoffs, great. I expect a little more with the talent that is here, and I believe the proof that it needs augmented to make a run is very visible. Just my .02. |

You bring up a valid point that I may have overlooked. Chicago also needs a buyer and hair puller. I wonder if he'd throw in Burrows. |

He's turned over a new leaf and promises not to do that anymore and be a model NHL player focusing only on improving himself for the betterment of the team...much like Patrick Kane and his promise to no longer make a fool of himself off the ice. |

Great! Another winger!
Does that help their defensive liabilities?
Power up front? (That's not Kane)
Power play QB?
Goalie?
Yeah... that's what I thought. |
